Motorists MP Filip Turek has apologised in writing to the environmental organisation Hnutí Duha for offensive remarks in which he linked the group to deaths during floods and called its members "parasites who needed to be eliminated". The honorary president of the Motorists party said on Facebook in April that “several people died in the 2022 floods because the activist Hnutí Duha had prevented the construction of a necessary dam.”
In the apology, Turek acknowledges that the statements were not based on fact and constituted an unjustified infringement of the organisation’s reputation.
The apology, which was ordered by the Prague Municipal Court in September, has been published on the organisation’s website.

The Metronome Prague music festival, which has previously featured Sting, Alanis Morissette and Iggy Pop, is to end after ten years, the organisers told the Czech News Agency.
The main reasons for the decision include insufficient attendance and a lack of long-term strategic partners for the festival’s future.
The 10th edition of Metronome Prague took place in June at Letňany Airport, where the festival had moved from Prague’s Exhibition Grounds. It was headlined by British singer and songwriter Sting and featured dozens of performers across three stages, with one of its highlights being Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Attendance, however, did not reach the tens of thousands of people that is usual for concerts by international stars at the Letňany venue.

The Czech Defence Ministry has cancelled a tender to procure 185 armoured vehicles for military engineers, military medics, special forces and the Military Police, with an estimated value of CZK 24.7 billion.
The public procurement register lists economic circumstances among the reasons for the cancellation. After addressing shortcomings, including the absence of a financial analysis, the ministry plans to launch a new tender.
Some military and security analysts are concerned about the impact of the cancellation on the Czech Army’s capabilities, while others see a new tender as the best option.

Škoda Auto is reducing production at its Mladá Boleslav plant due to problems at one of its component suppliers. The company said in a statement that it was partially reducing the number of shifts at the affected facilities depending on the availability of parts for individual models.
Škoda Auto did not specify which supplier or components were involved, or which facilities and models were affected.
According to the Automotive Industry Association, Škoda Auto produced 648,393 passenger cars at its Czech plants between January and the end of August, an increase of 6.2 percent year-on-year. Production of electrified vehicles rose by 24.7 percent to 169,554 cars. Of these, 147,288 were fully electric vehicles and 22,266 were plug-in hybrids.

The July car accident involving Motorist MP Filip Turek and the driver of an emergency medical vehicle in central Prague did not constitute a criminal offence, police have concluded. The case has therefore been referred to misdemeanor proceedings.
Police investigated the incident over possible negligent bodily harm and concluded that no criminal offence had been committed. Their findings indicate that both participants may have committed a traffic offence involving road safety and the smooth flow of traffic.
Turek’s car collided with the emergency vehicle on July 13 at a busy intersection near I. P. Pavlova Square. Footage from the scene shows the MP overtaking a queue in a turning lane shortly before the collision, while the emergency vehicle was using its audible warning signal as it crossed the intersection.
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) told the Czech News Agency that Turek would not return to his post as the government’s special envoy for climate policy and the Green Deal until the matter had been definitively cleared up.

The Czech Finance Ministry will set maximum fuel prices for the weekend and Monday on Friday. Filling stations can currently charge no more than CZK 48.58 per litre for diesel and CZK 45.92 for petrol, slightly below the caps introduced on Thursday. The government imposed the limits in response to a sharp rise in fuel prices in recent weeks. Diesel prices fell by as much as three crowns per litre at some stations on the first day of regulation, helped by a temporary cut in excise duty. Similar price controls were in place earlier this year from April to July.

The coalition government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) has survived its second no-confidence vote in the Czech lower house. The motion was supported by 83 opposition MPs, well short of the 101 votes needed to bring down the government, while 94 MPs from the governing ANO, Freeedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) and Motorists parties voted against it. The opposition called the vote over issues including the proposed 2027 budget deficit, Babiš’s alleged unresolved conflict of interest and what it describes as government attacks on institutions. The parliamentary debate lasted three days and around 27.5 hours.
