The contract between the Czech energy company ČEZ and the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power company, which will see two new nuclear reactors built in Dukovany, has been temporarily prohibited, following the issuing of preliminary measures by the Czech Office for the Protection of Economic Competition. The measures are a response to official challenges by the rival companies EDF and Westinghouse. The conclusion of the contract may be postponed until a decision is made by the office on the legitimacy of the original tender.
The office’s spokesman Martin Švanda today confirmed the decision to ČTK, and stated the issuing of the measures does not anticipate what the final decision of the office will be. The contract is still set to be signed by the end of March 2025, and the first of the new reactors in Dukovany should be completed in 2036.

The ruling parties reached a compromise on the controversial pension reform bill ahead of its third reading in the lower house, which began on Wednesday. The retirement age will gradually increase by one month a year over the age of 65 after 2030 and will be capped at 67. About 15,000 people employed in high risk professions will be able to retire early without losing money. The original proposal was for the high-risk professions to encompass more than 127,000 people but that was abandoned in favour of a slower increase in the retirement age. Among the professions that will be able to retire early are foundry workers, welders, grinders and metallurgists. On the other hand, glassmakers, assembly workers and nurses will not be entitled to early retirement.
