In view of the ongoing situation, electric plants that use coal could remain in use for longer than was initially planned, ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš said at a press conference on Tuesday. This, he said, could be both more effective and cheaper in the short term.

ČEZ announced in its strategy last year that it will gradually reduce coal as an energy source before completely removing it as a heat plant source in 2030. The company plans to end brown coal mining in its facilities in northern Bohemia by 2038. The current government‘s manifesto vows to move the country away from coal by 2033.
