"October shows us how individual energy saving help all of society", Mr Síkela said, adding that low gas consumption in October was also helped by the month being unusually warm.

Sports teams from the country will in future appear under the unified name Czechia in international events, rather than the Czech Republic or variants. The change comes after the Czech Olympic Committee on Tuesday approved a request to enshrine the name Czechia with an international sports database, where it will replace the Czech Republic.

Some other national sports organisations had already decided to use Czechia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs began a campaign to promote the shorter name Czechia in 2016.

The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, says that Western sanctions should next be targeted against Belarus, which is indirectly helping Russia in its war on Ukraine. Mr. Fiala made the comment after he and other Czech cabinet members returned from a visit to Kyiv, where post-war reconstruction and cooperation were on the agenda.

The Czech leader said he had discussed the effectiveness of sanctions with Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, adding that the data proved they were effective.

Mr. Fiala said Belarus’s role in the conflict was now being discussed and that the Minsk government could not be allowed to contribute to Russia’s actions.

Experts from Czechia and Brazil used virtual reality to construct a model of her face.

The skull was originally believed to have belonged to a man.

The Prague Municipal Court could deliver a verdict in the trial of Andrej Babiš just days before Czech presidential elections, which he is contesting, take place, Novinky.cz reported on Tuesday.

Lawyers say that if Mr. Babiš is elected head of state criminal proceedings against him over alleged subsidy fraud would be suspended for the duration of his term of office, the news site said.

Hearings in the case are due to resume in December but the head of the court’s judges panel has also set aside January 4 to 6.

The ANO leader is accused of wrongfully acquiring around CZK 50 million in EU subsidies by misrepresenting the size of a business, the Stork’s Nest conference centre near Prague.

The prime minister, Petr Fiala, says Mr. Babiš is seeking the presidency to acquire immunity. The latter denies any wrongdoing.
