In addition to Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, Jana Kánská, the daughter of Milada Horáková, is also on board President Petr Pavel's flight to New York for the UN General Assembly, which starts on Monday. The president's advisor, Petr Kolář, told Czech daily Deník N that the decision to invite Jana Kánská on board was made at the last minute.
Ms. Kánská is a long-term resident of the USA but was visiting the Czech Republic and was due to return home on September 14. However, while spending the weekend at Mr Kolář's summer cottage, he asked her if she wanted to postpone her departure and fly with them to New York. She and the president were both keen to take up the offer as they had narrowly missed each other in Prague.
According to Mr Kolář, Mr Pavel had wanted to personally thank Ms Kánská for her support in his presidential campaign. The presidential advisor described the meeting as "very pleasant and moving" and said that the two talked at great length.
Once the plane lands in New York, Jana Kánská plans to head straight from there to Bethesda in the state of Maryland, where she lives.

The Czech economy is at risk of stagnation, Dominik Stroukal, a member of the National Economic Council of the Government (NERV) told Czech Television on Sunday. Therefore, in approximately two weeks, both NERV and the Czech Chamber of Commerce are presenting recommendations to the government on how to kickstart the economy again.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce, Zdeněk Zajíček, said that fundamental steps need to be taken within a matter of months in the areas of energy, transport, data networks, affordable housing, labour market liberalization, education and science, and research and innovation. He would like the strategic investments to be approved by March next year.

The Czech National Bank expects inflation to decrease to around two percent early next year, the bank's governor Aleš Michl said on CNN Prima News on Sunday. He attributed the recent reduction in inflation to the strict fiscal policy the central bank has been following and said that he expects this trend of decreasing inflation to continue.
However, he ruled out an early interest rate cut in the coming months and said that people should rather expect higher interest rates over the next five years than they have been used to in the past decade. He added that he doesn't expect money ever to be as cheap as it was back in 2016 and 2017, when interest rates were sometimes even as low as zero and a large amount of money was printed. He described this as one of the biggest economic mistakes by a central bank in history and said that he wants to make sure that Czechia never again has the highest core inflation in the EU.

Before leaving for their flight to New York for the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and President Petr Pavel told journalists that they want to lobby for Czechia's candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in nine years' time. President Pavel said that he has been pushing for Czechia's candidacy since he took office in March. Mr. Lipavský emphasised that these efforts are only just beginning.

President Petr Pavel departed for the USA on Sunday, where he will lead the Czech delegation during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Along with the president, the delegation will also include Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, who will deliver a speech regarding the upcoming Summit of the Future. The main topics at the assembly are expected to be the war in Ukraine and climate change.
The President's program will begin on Monday when he is due to give a speech at a summit about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. He will also speak the following two days, as part of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday and during an open debate at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Wednesday. A tense atmosphere is expected at the latter event as Russian and Ukrainian representatives will likely both be there. It has been announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also attend the General Assembly; however, it is not yet certain whether he will participate in the Security Council meeting.
Pavel also has about a dozen bilateral meetings planned on the sidelines of the assembly, including with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Liechtenstein's Grand Duke Hans Adam II. He will also meet with members of the American Jewish community and with General John Allen.
A gala dinner will be held on Wednesday on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the independent Czech and Slovak Republics, at which Pavel and Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová are due to give short speeches. The president will end his trip with a tour of the American branch of the Czech arms holding company Colt CZ Group in Hartford, formerly the well-known American arms manufacturer Colt, which was bought in 2021 by Česká zbrojovka Group SE.

The second and final day of NATO Days, the biggest air, military and security show in Central Europe, was kicked off with an airshow by the Polish aerobatic group Zelazny at Ostrava’s Mošnov Airport on Sunday. Unlike on Saturday, when several-kilometre-long queues of cars formed around the airport, especially in the morning as crowds flocked to the event and again in the afternoon and evening when they were leaving, traffic flowed mostly smoothly. Approximately 100,000 people are reported to have attended the first day of the event.

Officers from the extremism and terrorism department of the Prague police have arrested a man on suspicion of endorsing genocide, which is a criminal offence in Czechia. The man was arrested during the anti-government demonstration which took place in Wenceslas Square on Saturday afternoon, but the police have not confirmed whether he was participating in the protest.
The police wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that the man had a symbol of support for the Russian aggression on his shirt. In the accompanying photo that was posted of the offending T-shirt, a symbol of the Russian mercenary group Wagner is visible.

Thousands of people gathered in Prague's Wenceslas Square for an anti-government protest on Saturday afternoon. As with previous such demonstrations, it was organised by Jindřich Rajchl, head of the PRO (Právo Respekt Odbornost) party, who stated that public dissatisfaction with Petr Fiala's government is enormous. He criticised the government's handling of inflation, tax and pension overhauls, as well as its military spending and aid to Ukraine, saying that the Czech social security and health system was at the point of collapse thanks to "the influx of economic migrants from Ukraine".
The Czech News Agency estimated that there were approximately 10,000 protestors, with about half the square filled. Banners were visible in the crowd with slogans such as "Down with the USA's henchmen" and "No to NATO". Some people were also collecting signatures against the EU ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, which is due to enter into force in 2035.
The demonstration started at 2 p.m. After around two hours of speeches, the protestors left Wenceslas Square to march to the Interior Ministry headquarters in Letná.
