The Czech government is planning to send one army plane to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt and one to Amman in Jordan to transport Czech citizens home following the outbreak of conflict in the region, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said after a meeting of the State Security Council on Monday. Mr. Babiš said if there was any free seats on the planes the Czechs would also take back citizens of Slovakia or other states.
Four planes from the airline Smartwings are being deployed to Oman to bring stranded Czechs home. Mr. Babiš said the airline was ready to run up to eight special flights a day if required.
Seventeen flights from Prague to destinations in the Middle East were cancelled on Monday morning.

Tennis player Jakub Menšík has climbed one spot to 12th in the sport’s world rankings, his highest ever placing. The Czech moved closer to the top 10 after reaching the quarter-finals of the Dubai Championships last week.
This season Menšík, who is 20, has also reached the semi-finals in Doha and won a title in Auckland. He was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open before the round of 16 due to injury.

Czech goaltender Lukáš Dostál stopped 32 shots and denied two attempts in the shootout to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 3–2 win over Calgary. With a 94.1 save percentage, he was named the game’s third star and secured his third straight victory since the Olympic break. Forward Ondřej Palát contributed an assist as the New York Islanders edged Florida 5–4. Palát set up defenceman Matthew Schaefer midway through the third period, helping the Islanders extend their own winning streak to three games.

Czechia can expect a dry and mostly sunny week, with daytime temperatures climbing to as high as 16 degrees Celsius, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. Nights will remain chilly, with temperatures hovering around freezing. Forecasters say skies will be clear to partly cloudy throughout the week. Morning fog or low cloud may occur, occasionally lingering all day. Monday is set to be the coolest day, with highs between 9 and 13 degrees, or around 6 degrees under persistent cloud. Temperatures are expected to rise gradually, peaking midweek.

The Czech Foreign Ministry has advised citizens in Middle Eastern countries to follow instructions from local security authorities and avoid travelling within the region. Speaking after a crisis team meeting convened by Foreign Minister Petr Macinka (Motorists), spokesman Adam Čörgö said it is safer for people to remain where they are. According to the Drozd voluntary registration system, several thousand Czechs are currently in the region. The ministry’s emergency hotline has received around 700 calls since Saturday evening. Officials said capacity is being increased and operators are calling back those who were initially unable to get through.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) says Czechia is likely to adopt extraordinary security measures in response to the escalating crisis in the Middle East. Speaking ahead of a meeting of the State Security Council, he said the scope of the steps would depend on proposals from the Interior Ministry and police. The council is also discussing repatriations. Seventy-nine Czechs are being moved from Israel to Egypt and are expected to fly home on Tuesday. Others are waiting in Amman and Muscat, with flights by Smartwings and possible Czech government aircraft under consideration. Babiš said airspace closures are limiting options but stressed no Czechs are currently reported in direct danger.

Four aircraft operated by Smartwings company will depart for Oman on Monday to bring Czech citizens home, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said. Three planes will head to Muscat and one to Salalah. Each Boeing 737 Max can carry up to 189 passengers, offering a total of 756 seats. According to Babiš, around 650 of the 6,650 Czechs registered in the Drozd travel system have expressed interest in repatriation. Flights to Israel and the United Arab Emirates remain suspended due to closed airspace. The government is also ready to deploy a Casa military aircraft if needed.

Czech operators O2 Czech Republic and T-Mobile Czech Republic are providing free mobile data to Czech customers in selected Middle Eastern countries amid the current security crisis. O2 is offering five gigabytes, while T-Mobile is granting ten gigabytes, both valid for 30 days. Customers will be notified by SMS. The move follows Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliation. Thousands of Czechs are currently in the region, many registered in the Drozd travel system. The data packages are intended to help people stay in touch with relatives, although telecommunications services are reportedly disrupted in Iran.

Unseasonably warm weather brought two temperature records in Czechia on Saturday, with the highest reading of 15.4 degrees Celsius recorded in Vsetín. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, only two long-term stations broke records for March 1, far fewer than in previous days when dozens were surpassed. New records were also set in Štítná nad Vláří and Dukovany. Forecasters expect stable, sunny and above-average temperatures to continue next week, although mornings will remain chilly and foggy in places. Afternoon highs should hover around 13 degrees Celsius, with cooler conditions where fog persists.
