New health minister calls for gradual easing of anti-Covid restrictions

Health Minister Petr Arenberger told a news conference on Friday that the Easter holiday did not lead to a spike in new coronavirus infections, but an easing of restrictions should be conservative and incremental. The Health Ministry is not planning any loosening at the moment, he noted.

Arenberger said the pandemic could only be described as having stabilized once there are fewer than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, about one-third of the current figure. He further informed that if the vaccination campaign goes as planned, people over 40 years of age could register for the jab as of the end of June.
