New DG of National Theater to be named

Culture Minister Martin Baxa (Civic Democratic Party) will on Monday reveal the successor to Jan Burian as the general director of the National Theatre in Prague. Burian will remain in office until August 2028, overseeing the reconstruction of the New Stage and the theatre’s transformation into a public cultural institution. The selection process included two rounds, with candidates submitting written proposals and attending interviews. Burian has led the theatre since 2013. The New Stage renovation, costing 2.3 billion CZK, begins in June and will take two years, improving acoustics and energy efficiency.
