Ministry unaware of Czechs unable to get flights out of Greece
The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday night that it had no knowledge of any Czechs having failed to find return flights from Greece, which has been hit by wildfires. The ministry’s director general for legal and consular affairs, Martin Smolek, said that the situation on the island of Rhodes remained serious but had, according to local officials, been stabilised.
As of Monday evening, Czech travel agencies said there were around 4,500 tourists from Czechia on Rhodes. Of that number 1,000 arrived on Monday, while roughly 800 others left, Mr. Smolek said.
Some Czechs returning from Greece have criticised the standard of communication they received from tourist agencies in connection with the fires.
