Menšík wins singles and doubles as Europe leads World 3–1 at Laver Cup
Jakub Menšík gave Team Europe the lead at the Laver Cup, beating American Alex Michelsen 6:1, 6:7, 10:8. He later teamed up with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz to win the doubles match against Michelsen and Taylor Fritz 7:6, 6:4. Europe now leads the World team 3–1 after the first day.
At 20 years and 18 days, Menšík became the youngest singles winner in Laver Cup history, surpassing Alexander Zverev. He is also the first Czech to win a match at the tournament, following Tomáš Berdych’s appearance in the inaugural edition. Fellow Czech Tomáš Macháč is in San Francisco as a reserve for captain Yannick Noah’s squad.
The Laver Cup continues through the weekend.
