Menšík reaches last 16 at Masters in Montreal

Jakub Menšík has reached the last 16 at the Masters tournament in Montreal, joining fellow Czech Jiří Lehečka in that stage of the competition. The 13th-seeded Menšík defeated France’s Térence Atmane 7-5, 6-4 in the third round. He will next face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.

Menšík did not lose his serve and saved the only break point he faced. He converted two of 10 break opportunities. The match lasted one hour and 41 minutes.

The 20-year-old has reached the last 16 at a Masters tournament for the sixth time, but for the first time in Montreal. Czech doubles world number one Kateřina Siniaková also returned to action in Toronto after a shoulder injury, winning the first round with China’s Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-2.
