Martin Doctor in controversial disqualification
Let's turn to the sport, and the big story is the disqualification of the double Olympic gold medallist Martin Doctor from the 500 metres canoeing event at the Sydney Games on Wednesday. Doktor had finished second in the trial to his German rival Andreas Dittmer, however, the Czech was accused by the German team of breaching the sports so-called five-metre rule, a decision upheld by the event committee.
However, it's not all over yet for Doktor, as I discovered when I called up Czech Radio's reporter in Sydney, Miroslav Konvalina: Let's hope so. Just quickly to the boxing and the Czech Rudolf Kraj is just one bout away from a medal in Sydney. In the quarterfinal of his light-heavyweight competition, Kraj beat the Nigerian Jegbefumere Albert 8-7.
