Mádl's Waves wins Satellite Award for best foreign-language film

Jiří Mádl's film Waves (Vlny) has been awarded the Satellite Award for best foreign-language film, triumphing over six other nominees. The winners are chosen by film journalists from around the world, under the International Press Academy. The academy selects nominees from domestic and international submissions across 35 categories—23 for film and 12 for television—based on early screenings at global film festivals. This year marked the 29th edition of the prestigious awards. Inspired by the true story of international journalists at Czechoslovak Radio in the 1960s, Waves explores their dedication to delivering independent news. The film was also shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature but did not make the final five nominees.
