Last snowfield in Giant Mountains has melted

The so-called Map of the Republic, a snow field where snow stays the longest in the country, melted in the Giant Mountains on Tuesday, the spokesman of the national park has confirmed.

The snowpatch, which has a shape of former Czechoslovakia, is located on the southern slope of Studniční Mountain. It is said that summer only starts in the mountains when all the snow is gone.

In 2005 the Map of the Republic remained on the spot until the end of August, while three years ago, it melted already before the end of May.
