Second degree avalanche alert in Giant Mountains

A second degree avalanche alert has been declared in the Krkonoše (Giant) Mountains following heavy snow over the past 48 hours. The mountain rescue service has appealed to skiers to stay on marked trails and not take any risks. There is a 50 to 80 centimetres thick blanket of snow on the slopes, 30 centimetres of which is fresh snow, which combined with a strong wind could present problems. On the Polish side of the Giant Mountains, a second degree avalanche alert has been in force since Saturday.
