Klempíř: Motorists favour keeping licence fees for public media

Motorists’ Party nominee for culture minister Oto Klempíř says his party supports keeping licence fees for Czech Television and Czech Radio, even though coalition partners ANO and the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party want to scrap them. After talks with President Petr Pavel, he said maintaining the independence of public media is essential. Klempíř noted that the coalition will have to reach a “meaningful result” on financing and mentioned Nordic-style models as possible alternatives. He described his meeting with Pavel as “noble” and mainly focused on shared priorities in culture, although he criticised what he called excessive “artistic activism.”
