Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová opens Prague Opera Festival
The 16th Festival of Music Theatre Opera kicks off today in Prague’s Estates Theatre with Leoš Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová, performed by the Silesian Theatre Opava and starring soprano Tereza Kavecká. The festival, running until April 19, showcases 25 productions from Czech, Moravian, Silesian, and Slovak opera companies, including King Roger by Karol Szymanowski and The Little Prince by Rachel Portman. Exceptional performances will receive honorary awards, the “Libuška” prizes. Despite two cancellations, this year’s festival offers a record number of productions, celebrating diverse approaches to opera staging.
