Institutes urge equal punishment for Nazi and communist propaganda

Czech lawmakers should explicitly criminalize the promotion and support of both Nazi and Communist ideologies, according to institutions focused on the study of totalitarian regimes. The appeal was issued on Wednesday by several organizations, led by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes.

A proposal scheduled for discussion on Thursday by the Chamber of Deputies’ Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee aims to remove the remaining legal imbalance between how Nazi and Communist propaganda are punished. Supporters say the measure would help strengthen the protection of democratic values and the rule of law.
