The inspirational 20th century Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová and her April Preludes

Vítězslava Kaprálová

The eighth part of our video series on Czech Music Greats is devoted to Vítězslava Kaprálová, a hugely talented Czech composer and conductor, who died at the age of just 25.

Despite her untimely death, Kaprálová left behind an impressive body of work. Her music was much admired by Rafael Kubelík who premiered her orchestral song Waving Farewell and performed several other works; so did Rudolf Firkušný, for whom Kaprálová composed April Preludes and Two Dances for Piano.

Her other works include Military Sinfonietta, Three Pieces for Piano, Legend, Sonata Appassionata, Ostinato Fox and Forever.
