Austrian Airline jet crash lands in Germany
An Austrian Airlines jet with 32 people on board made an emergency landing in a field on Monday after reporting engine problems. The Fokker 70 jet landed about two kilometres from Munich airport leaving three people slightly hurt and one in shock.
Hungarian Finance Minister sacked as budget tests euro bid
Hungary's Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy has sacked his finance minister, Csaba Laszlo. The announcement came after figures showed that last year's budget deficit was much higher than predicted.
Czech government threatens to limit working rights of some EU citizens
The Czech government has said it may limit the right of some EU citizens to work freely in the Czech Republic after May 1st. The announcement is being seen as a reaction to a transitional period during which countries like Germany and Austria will not allow citizens of new EU countries free access to their labour markets.
Poland in talks on hosting U.S. military bases
Poland has started negotiations with Washington on hosting U.S. military bases in its territory. Polish defence minister said he was in favour of hosting the bases, but the issue of who would cover their operating costs remained open.
Slovaks to hold presidential vote in April
Slovakia has announced it's to hold presidential election on April the 3rd. The current president Rudolf Schuster has not yet said whether he'll run for a second five-year term.
