Slovak abortion law to be amended
The Slovak parliament has approved amendments to the country's abortion laws. The measure makes abortion legal until the 24th week. The previous law allowed abortion only until the 12th week.
Klaus disturbed by attempts to 're-open' the past
Czech President Vaclav Klaus has said he is disturbed by attempts both at home and abroad to reopen what he calls "questions of the past". His statement follows a call by the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber for compensation for Sudeten Germans expelled from Czech land after the world war 2.
First Polish stabilisation troops arrive in Iraq
The first group of Polish troops have arrived in Iraq. The advance team is preparing the ground for the Polish-led stabilization force that will over see one of the post-war zones set up to stabilize and rebuild the country.
World Bank and EU to fund Roma integration project
The World Bank and eastern European governments, meeting in Budapest have agreed to launch a ten-year Roma integration project. The project will use World Bank and EU funds to help the poor, fund medical care and support education programs for Roma living in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
Haupt to stay as leader of Austrian Freedom Party
Herbert Haupt is to remain as leader of Austria's right wing freedom Party - following a high-level party meeting in Vienna. Former Freedom party leader and governor of Carinthia Jörg Haider had said he wanted to return as leader and that his decision to give up the party leadership three years ago was a mistake.
