Higher license fees for public broadcasters now in force

As of May 1, Czechs will have to pay higher license fees for public radio and television broadcasts. Under a newly approved legislation the number of households obligated to pay will expand to include those with internet access, even if they do not own traditional receivers. The license fee for Czech Television will increase by 15 crowns to 150 crowns per month and for Czech Radio by 10 crowns to 55 crowns per month. Payments can be arranged on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. The fee is compulsory for all households that can receive broadcasts by TV and radio receivers, via the internet, smartphones, tablets or computers. Foreigners with long-term or permanent residence in the Czech Republic are also obliged to pay.
