Heavy snowfall disrupts traffic in western Czechia and Prague

Heavy snowfall hit the western half of the country early on Friday, disrupting traffic on motorways, mountain roads and in cities. Police dealt with dozens of accidents, mainly in western, northern and central Bohemia and in Prague. Snowplough crews deployed all available equipment but were hindered by stuck lorries and reckless drivers. Several stretches of key motorways were temporarily closed, as were some busy streets in the capital. No serious injuries have been reported so far. In Prague, snowfall also disrupted public transport, with blocked tram lines and problems in hilly areas. Conditions were expected to improve as snowfall gradually eased during the morning.
