Health Minister: Secondary schools in high-risk areas will close for 2 weeks
Health Minister Roman Prymula told an ongoing debate in parliament about declaring a new State of Emergency due to the Covid-19 uptick that he that he plans to close secondary schools in high-risk regions for two weeks.
Prymula told MPs that while secondary schools in areas designated as ‘red’ or ‘orange’ under the nation’s so-called traffic light system will close, kindergartens and primary schools should remain open.
According to Prymula, who is an epidemiologist, high school students are involved in about half of Covid-19 cases, with many spreading it while showing no symptoms.
He told MPs the Ministry of Health also wants to limit access to shopping centres so that high school students do not gather en masse outside of school. Extracurricular activities such as sports and music lessons will also be cancelled.
