Germans buying up Czech fireworks to skirt temporary sales ban

Germans have been buying fireworks by the kilo in the Czech Republic to get around a temporary sales ban at home, DPA reports.

Authorities in Bavaria have registered a significant increase in the seizure of fireworks, a police spokesperson told the news agency. Most were purchased at Czech markets near the shared border.

In Germany, the sale of fireworks in the weeks before New Year’s Eve has been banned for a second year in a row. In the Czech Republic, however, they are sold year round.
