Geological survey begins in Dukovany for new nuclear reactors

Preparatory fieldwork has started in Dukovany for the construction of two new nuclear units. Experts are drilling around 300 boreholes, some as deep as 140 metres, to assess geological conditions on the site. The survey, covering roughly 200 hectares, is being carried out by Czech energy company ČEZ Energetické produkty and subcontractors on behalf of South Korea’s KHNP, which won the contract to build the reactors. According to KHNP CEO Ju Ho-wang, it is important that experienced Czech specialists are involved from the outset. ČEZ aims to obtain a construction permit by 2029, with the first reactor operational in 2036.
