French Open: Petra Kvitová faces Shuai Zhang, Krejčíková out
Barbora Krejčíková, the first Czech tennis player to reach round 16 of the ongoing French Open, lost to Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska on Sunday in three sets – 6-2, 2-6 and 3-6. A doubles specialist, it was her best result in a Grand Slam tournament.
Petra Kvitová, the world no.11, is now the only Czech left in the knockout stages. She faces China's Shuai Zhang (seeded no.39) on Monday for a place in the quarterfinals.
Two-time Wimbledon champion has won three of their five previous encounters. The Czech seeks her second quarterfinal-or-better showing at Roland Garros in her career. A win over Zhang would project her to return her to the Top 10 of the WTA singles rankings.
