Food waste far bigger than previously thought

A study by scientists from Brno’s Mendel University regarding food waste has revealed that people waste far more food than previously thought.

Earlier conclusions based on polls said people in this country throw out approximately 4.5 kilos of food a year. But the team of Brno scientists, who sifted  through 900 garbage cans in Brno to get a more accurate picture, say people in the city each waste 37.4 kilos of food a year.

The result is reportedly applicable to the whole of the Czech Republic.
