FM Lipavský: Election of Pope Leo XIV "symbolic" and "represents hope"

Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, was on Thursday elected and announced to the world as the new Bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church. He is the first pope from the USA.

In a post on the X platform, Czech Foreign Ministry Jan Lipavský welcomed the news and wished the new pope success, writing that "his election on the day we mark 80 years since the end of one of the darkest wars is symbolic and represents hope for the entire world."
