Flood commission meets as extreme rainfall expected in eastern Czechia
The Czech Central Flood Commission conveneed on Tuesday morning in response to a warning of extreme rainfall in the Beskydy and Jeseníky mountains. According to the Environment Ministry, the meeting began at 7:30 a.m. at its headquarters in Prague, with Minister Petr Hladík and meteorological officials briefing the public. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has issued the highest-level weather warning for parts of the Zlín and Moravian-Silesian regions. Rainfall totals could reach 100 to 200 millimetres in some areas. The downpours are expected to peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, potentially pushing river levels in eastern Moravia and Silesia above flood alert thresholds.
