European Public Prosecutor’s Office handled 71 new cases in Czechia in 2024

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) handled 71 new cases in Czechia last year, 28 more than the year before, according to its annual report. The estimated financial damage reached nearly €600 million (around CZK 15 billion), an increase of CZK 13 billion year-on-year. The rise in cases and financial losses is attributed to improved cooperation with national authorities and a focus on organized crime groups committing VAT fraud. Most reports came from national bodies (70), followed by private sector complaints (34) and EU institutions (6). Ongoing investigations include subsidy fraud, VAT evasion, money laundering, and corruption.
