European Public Prosecutor opens criminal proceedings over Agrofert subsidies
The European Public Prosecutor's Office has launched criminal proceedings over the payment of EU subsidies to the Agrofert holding company. The move follows a criminal complaint filed by the Pirate Party, which alleges a conflict of interest involving Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO).
According to the Seznam Zprávy news website, prosecutors are investigating politicians and public officials who approved the subsidy payments. They are also examining why the Czech Republic has not sought to recover subsidies previously paid to Agrofert.
Babiš transferred his Agrofert shares into the RSVP Trust in February and insists that this resolved any potential conflict of interest.
