European Literature Prize 2021 goes to Lucie Faulerová

Czech writer Lucie Faulerová has won the European Literature Prize 2021 for her novel “Smrtholka”, the jury in Brussels announced on Tuesday. Authors from 14 EU countries were honoured. The award ceremony will take place in the Belgian capital in late September.

The EU Literature Prize is awarded annually to new and emerging writers. It was first given out in 2009. The award, endowed with 5,000 euros, aims to provide a forum for as yet unknown writers and their works across Europe. Faulerová is the fourth Czech author to win after Tomáš Zmeškal (2011), Jan Němec (2014) and Bianca Bellová (2017).
