EU adds Russian tanker Gogland to sanctions list, company linked to Prague address
The Russian oil tanker Gogland has been added to the EU sanctions list as part of the bloc’s 18th sanctions package against Russia. According to investigators from Czech Radio, the tanker has repeatedly sailed between Russia and Turkey, exhibiting signs of being part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which helps circumvent sanctions and finance the war in Ukraine. Gogland is owned by Silverina Holding SA, officially registered in Samara, Russia, but the company previously listed a luxury apartment complex in Prague as its contact address. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (non partisan) welcomed the move, calling it a step toward reducing Russia’s oil revenues. The company’s Prague-based representative claims the vessel only transported sunflower oil, not crude, but has not responded to recent inquiries.
