Divided We Fall takes Cesky Lev awards by storm

It was little surprise that the film nominated for this year's "Best Foreign Language" Oscar made a clean sweep of Saturday night's Cesky Lev awards. Winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and both Best Lead Male and Female awards, "Musime Si Pomahat" came out with the single most wins. But after accepting his award, screenwriter Petr Jarchovsky admitted that the entire cast and crew were on the edge of their seats all evening:

"Right now we feel terrific because the nervousness felt at the beginning of the night has worn off. Regarding my own award, I am very proud. I have to admit that I was still upset from last year's results where I feel "Pelisky" came up short; this award for best screenplay truly means a lot to me because if the script isn't successful then the film is little more than an unborn child. It's great to be recognized. This is why our whole team was so nervous... but in the end it all turned out for the best."

Another film that was quite successful at the Cesky Lev was "Kytice" which went home with three awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound, and Best Score. Deana Horvathova-Jakubiskova, the movie's producer, had this to say about the results...

The Cesky Lev awards are decided by an independent board, the Czech Film and Television Academy. The director of the association, Petr Vachler, looked beyond the immediate recognition of the award, to what the Lev means overall for Czech film...
