Dancing to the tune of modern art in Slovenia.

This year's international festival of modern art, now underway in the Slovene capital Ljublijana. The theme of the festival is 'Believe the Impossible.' Festival coordinator Bettina Knaup, speaks about the meaning behind the title...

"Believing the impossible means on the one hand to embark into utopian imagination, into fairytales, into children's fantasies or science fiction - which is a strategy which many of our artists employ. Believing the impossible also means though, not to give up, to keep your beliefs and your dignity, also in time of economic and social stress - such as for example the current collapse of the Slovene textile industry. This is a topic, which is at the heart of some of our artists. A big highlight is the opening concert with Camellia Yubran, a Palestinian musician who presents a fusion of European electro-phonics, traditional Arabic sounds and modern poetry of the Middle East as well as videos, art and Jazz. And the renowned Slovene dancer Mia Delak is another highlight. She is improving together with a prominent Norwegian artist."

And there will also be some film performances?

" Yes, as usual the program is very diverse. We cover a lot of genres such as installation, visual arts, film, music, performance and dance. IN the film program, the highlight is the film " Piece of the Sky" by the young Belgium-French director Bénédicte Liénard. And in her first feature film she portrays two women who live in two very different social environs in a factory and a prison, but which are on the other hand very similar. This film was shot on location with mainly non professional actors and we've managed to present the film both in cinematic and also in Ljubljana woman's prison too"
