Czechs mark 52nd anniversary of Soviet-led invasion
Events are being held in the Czech Republic on Friday marking the 52nd anniversary of the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Soviet-led Warsaw Pact troops, which began in the early hours August 21, 1968.
The invasion of Warsaw-Pact troops crushed the reform movement known as the Prague Spring and was the start of an occupation that lasted for over two decades. Over 100 people were killed and more than 500 injured in the clash with foreign troops during the first weeks of the invasion.
As every year, a memorial ceremony was held in front of the Czech Radio building on Prague's Vinohradská Street, the scene of some of the bloodiest clashes.
