Czechs and Germans walk pilgrimage from Pohořelice to Brno in reverse of 1945 expulsion

Several hundred Czechs and Germans took part today in a reconciliation pilgrimage from Pohořelice to Brno, retracing in reverse the route taken during the 1945 expulsion of Brno’s German-speaking population. Held for the twentieth time as part of the Meeting Brno festival, the event began at a memorial marking the site of a former internment camp where hundreds perished. Participants included descendants of expelled Germans and representatives from Germany and Austria. Organizers and speakers emphasized remembrance, reconciliation, and the importance of truth in confronting both historical and present-day injustices.
