Czechia tightens border measures due to foot-and-mouth disease concern
Czechia is increasing border controls following a suspected outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease near Malacky in western Slovakia, less than 50 kilometers from the Czech border. Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný announced enhanced measures at the Břeclav-Brodské border crossing on the D2 motorway near the town of Lanžhot.
The suspicion centers around a farm near the village of Plavecký Štvrtok. In response, the inspection regime at the Lanžhot border crossing has been tightened with immediate effect, under the supervision of the State Veterinary Administration, according to Výborný.
In addition to Lanžhot, controls are in place at the Mikulov-Drasenhofen crossing in the Břeclav region and the Hatě-Kleinhaugsdorf crossing in the Znojmo region, where decontamination mats have been installed, and firefighters continue to manage operations with police assistance.
