Czechia switches to summertime

Czechia, along with the rest of Europe, switched to summertime, or daylight-saving time, at 2 AM on Sunday. Summer time will end in October. The change affected 11 international trains operated by Czech Railways, which were delayed by an hour.

In Czechia, or Czechoslovakia, summer time was first introduced during WWI and then again during WWII. It was abolished in 1949 but brought back by the communist authorities in 1979.

In 2019, the European parliament agreed to discontinue the practice, with a goal of ending summer time by 2021, but member states failed to agree on a single time. The Czech government approved a regulation to continue the practice at least until 2026.
