Czechia starts fuel price controls as caps take effect

Government measures aimed at slowing the sharp rise in fuel prices in Czechia came into force at midnight on Wednesday. The Finance Ministry set the day’s maximum pump price at CZK 49.59 per litre for diesel and CZK 43.15 for petrol. Both limits are more than one crown above the average prices recorded at the start of this week. A cap on retailers’ margins also took effect, limiting them to CZK 2.50 per litre for both petrol and diesel. The ministry says it will announce a new maximum price every day, based on wholesale indices from Čepro, Orlen and MOL, as well as Platts market quotations.
