Czechia joins EU countries urging ban on Russian gas and LNG

Ten EU countries, including Czechia, have called for a complete ban on Russian natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, according to a document reported by Reuters. The proposal is part of discussions on the EU’s 16th sanctions package against Russia for its war in Ukraine, expected to be finalized in February. While some EU nations, like Belgium and Spain, still purchase Russian LNG, countries supporting the ban argue it should be implemented as soon as possible. Poland, leading the EU presidency, advocates for strict measures against Moscow, aligning with Kyiv’s allies.
