Czechia and 15 other EU member states criticize Hungary’s anti-LGBT+ laws

Sixteen EU countries, among them Czechia, have expressed deep concern over Hungary’s recent laws targeting the LGBT+ community. In a joint statement to be released Tuesday ahead of an EU ministers' meeting, they call out measures passed by Hungary’s parliament—including a ban on Pride marches and constitutional amendments recognizing only two genders—as threats to freedom of expression, assembly, and privacy. The signatories urge Hungary to revise the laws and call on the European Commission to act if changes are not made. The Hungarian government defends the measures as protecting children’s rights.
