Czech troops to join counterterrorism mission in Kenya

The Czech Chamber of Deputies has approved the deployment of up to 30 soldiers to Kenya, where they will serve as instructors and advisors until the end of 2026. The mission aims to strengthen the capabilities of Kenyan forces in counterterrorism and crisis response. At Kenya’s request, Czech troops may also accompany local units during operations. The deployment builds on previous Czech military training activities in the region since 2012 and now has full parliamentary mandate. According to Minister for Science Marek Ženíšek (TOP09 Party), who spoke on behalf of absent defense and foreign ministers, stability in East Africa directly affects European security, maritime safety, and migration control.
