Czech, Slovak and UK representatives commemorate Operation Anthropoid
A re-enactment of the 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich took place this morning in Prague’s Libeň district, to mark the 80th anniversary of the historic event. The re-enactment took place shortly after 10.30, the same time that the real attack took place, and was then followed by a memorial service which included the laying of wreaths.
The event was attended by crowds of spectators and representatives of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom, including Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, Czech Defence Minister Jana Černochová, Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, and British Foreign Minister Liz Truss.
This year was the first time that the anniversary of the assassination was officially recognised as the Day of National Defiance. The assassination of Heydrich is considered to be one of the greatest acts of European domestic resistance during World War II and contributed to the post-war reconstruction of Czechoslovakia.
