Czech seniors living longer, but fewer years spent in good health

Life expectancy at age 65 has risen by almost three years over the past two decades in Czechia, according to the Czech Statistical Office. In 2025, 65-year-old men could expect to live another 17.1 years, and women 20.8 years. However, Eurostat figures for 2024 show that men could expect only 7.8 years in good health without activity limitations, and women 8.2 years, both below the EU average. Prague recorded the longest remaining life expectancy among Czech regions, while the Ústí region had the shortest. The figures come amid debate over the government's plans to cap the retirement age at 65.
