Czech runner Manuel wins world indoor 400m gold in record time

Czech quarter-miler Lurdes Gloria Manuel has become world indoor champion after winning the 400 metres at the championships in Toruń. The 20-year-old set a new personal best of 50.76 seconds, ending an eight-year wait for a Czech medal at the event and following in the footsteps of Pavel Maslák, who last won gold in 2018. The Ostrava-born athlete returned strongly this season after injury limited her racing last year. She improved her previous best of 51.03 and beat Poland’s Natalia Bukowiecka and Dutch runner Lieke Klaver to claim victory.
