Czech Republic’s public debt rose to nearly 42 percent in 2021

The Czech Republic’s public deficit grew by 5.9 percent in 2021 to a total of 41.9 percent of the country’s GDP, the Czech Statistics Agency announced on Friday. The deficit in 2020 lay at 37.7 percent of GDP.

Creditas Chief Economist Petr Dufek told the Czech News Agency that the numbers are not surprising given the government spending last year, which was not only affected by coronavirus emergency subsidies but also by new legislation abolishing the so-called "super gross wage" and the lower productivity of the economy in general.
