Czech PM slams Lukashenko regime for humanitarian crisis on Polish-Belarussian border
PM Andrej Babiš has slammed the Lukashenko regime for the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarussian border, where thousands of illegal refugees from the Middle East are trapped in no-man’s land following Belarussian attempts to forcibly funnel them into EU territory. Speaking after a meeting of the Visegrad group on Tuesday, Mr. Babiš said the European Union should respond with sanctions against airlines transporting migrants to Belarus. The Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary have all offered to help Poland to defend its border with Belarus against the wave of illegal migrants. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said he was grateful for the show of solidarity, but has so far not taken up the offer of assistance.
