Czech PM Fiala tries to avert crisis, names new justice minister

Eva Decroix, a member of parliament and deputy chair of the Civic Democratic Party, will become Czechia’s new minister of justice. Prime Minister Petr Fiala (also Civic Democratic Party) announced that she will be officially appointed by President Petr Pavel on Tuesday, June 10, and will assume the role the same day. Decroix replaces Pavel Blažek, who resigned over controversy surrounding a donation of bitcoins worth one billion crowns. Although the transaction was not found to be illegal, Blažek stepped down to assume political responsibility for the resulting doubts. Decroix, who has served in parliament since 2021, is seen by Fiala as the best choice to restore trust in the ministry.
